- Candidates must be in their 3rd year or higher of an undergraduate degree or have completed a recognized undergraduate program.
- Qualifying degrees include Bachelor’s degrees in Engineering, Technology, Architecture, Science, as well as Master’s degrees in Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or Computer Applications. Five-year integrated Master’s or dual degrees in Engineering/Technology and certain professional society examinations are also accepted.
Other key requirements - Both Indian citizens and eligible international candidates can apply.
- There is no age limit or restriction on the number of attempts for the GATE exam.
Eligibility for international students - Students from countries other than India who are pursuing or have completed a qualifying undergraduate degree of at least three years are eligible to apply. This includes candidates from countries like Nepal, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka, Singapore, and the UAE

How To Apply Online GATE 2026 Admission Form- Visit the official website: Go to gate2026.iitg.ac.in.
- Register for a new account: Navigate to the “Apply Online” section and register with a valid email ID and mobile number. You will receive an OTP for verification.
- Log in: Use your new credentials (enrollment ID and password) to log in to the GOAPS portal.
- Fill out the form: Complete the application with your personal, educational, and communication details.
- Upload documents: Upload a scanned photo, left thumb impression, and signature according to the prescribed specifications.
- Pay the fee: Pay the application fee online using a credit card, debit card, or net banking.
- Submit the form: After reviewing all details, submit your application and download the confirmation page for your records.

Instructions for uploading your GATE 2026 documents - Passport-size photograph
The photograph is used for your admit card and scorecard, so it must meet the following specifications: - Format: JPEG/JPG.
- Size: 5 kB to 600 kB.
- Dimensions: 3.5 cm (width) x 4.5 cm (height).
- Resolution: 200×260 pixels (min) to 530×690 pixels (max).
- Background: Plain white.
- Appearance: Taken after August 1, 2025, with your face covering 60–70% of the image. Your face should be clearly visible with no shadows, and you should not wear hats, caps, or sunglasses. If you wear glasses, there should be no glare. Avoid using photographs taken with a mobile phone.
Signature - Your scanned signature is used for verification.
- Format: JPEG/JPG.
- Size: 3 kB to 300 kB.
- Resolution: 250×80 pixels (min) to 580×180 pixels (max).
- Procedure: Sign with black or dark blue ink on white A4 paper. Do not use all capital letters. Scan the signature and crop the image to the signature’s border, ensuring the signature covers 70–80% of the cropped area.
- Thumb impression (not required for GATE 2026)
